2016 Season Preview

Saturday 5th March will be the start of the 2016 season.

The senior side start with an away fixture to newly promoted Skye Camanachd. Skye won the 2015 National League by a four point margin and an impressive +48 goal difference, and they will be keen to get off to a good start in the 2016 Marine Harvest Premiership. Lovat, still buoyant from the 2015 Camanachd Cup win are hoping to build on this success and get off to a flying start. The following week sees Lovat host Kinlochshiel at Balgate who miss their opening game due to a bereavement in Newtonmore.

In the cups, Lovat are home to Lochaber in the MacAulay 1st round (30th April), away to Newtonmore in the MacTavish 1st round (26th March).

The juniors start with the reverse of the senior team, with a home tie against newly promoted Skye Camanachd. Skye reserves also won their league in 2015 by a comfortable margin and are promoted into the very competitive North Division 1. Lovat’s junior team had a lucky escape from relegation on the final game of 2015 but come into the new season stronger and optimistic about the year ahead. The following week sees another reverse of the senior team, with the juniors down to play ‘shiel in Kirkton.

In the reserve team cups, Lovat are away to Kilmallie in the Sutherland 1st round (9th April) and join the Strathdearn Cup in the 2nd round away to Aberdeen (18th June).

The ladies get their campaign started on Sunday 13th at home to Strathglass, however a number of Lovat’s players will be lining up in Spean Bridge against Lochaber on Sunday 6th for the All Stars (a team made up from the best players in North and South Division 2).

All we need now is a good weather forecast….
