Another good 2 points earned away from home at a hard venue.

In a competitive match, Lovat took the lead through a Gregg rocket shot from a tight angle in 14 minutes. However Kilmallie equalised with a hotly disputed penalty 4 minutes from half time.

After the break, a determined Lovat took the lead through an Owen strike and although a few chances went wide including a penalty hit, we managed to grinde out the win with not a little bit of help from some determined defending and a late, great penalty stop by Stuart in the goals.

A resilient performance  from the whole squad, where everyone played their part. Its obvious to all, that the team are working hard, both at training and for each other on the  pitch on a Saturday.

Unfortunatly no match scheduled for next week, but training will continue in preparation for our first  home fixture against Bute the week after.

Following a hard pre-season,Lovat travelled to the Eilan in good spirits for the first game of the new premier league season.

A harder opener we couldn’t have had than against Brick’s formidable Newtonmore team in Badenoch. However a great performance from the Lovat lads led by new Captain Martin Bell and vice -captain Callum Cruden bagged the Balgate boy’s their first points of the season.

In an exciting, highly competitive first half, good teamwork led to Gregg notching an opening day hat-trick while the defence and midfield worked tirelessly for the cause.

In an exceptionally long second half, the defence stood firm and even though Lovat had a number of chances they were thwarted by the Newtonmore defence and keeper. To be fair to the home side, they did turn up the heat in the second half and had the bulk of the play, though they were only rewarded with a single goal from their  chances.

Next week sees the boys head to Kilmallie… always a tough venue to visit:- 230pm throw-up.

There is no training on Wednesday this week.(29/02/12)

Training instead will be at 830pm on Thursday(30/02/12) at the astroturf in Kirkhill.

The last pre-season friendly, was a hard fought game in wet conditions away to Skye in the Thomas Ferguson Memorial Cup.

Lovat started well, and played some good shinty, with Greg scoring within 5 minutes, however Willie MacRae’s Skye dug in and seemed to adapt themselves better to the conditions- equalised and then raced to a 3-1 interval lead.

A determined Lovat emerged for the second half, and  the players showed good character in pulling Skye back ,equalising and finally taking the lead with a further goal from Greg and 2 from Frosty. The team then held firm and kept the Skye attack at bay until the final whistle blew and the cup was retained.

Best wishes to Willie and his team for the coming season, and a big thank you to them for inviting us to participate in this special event in memorium of their former player.

Lovat 5 – 1 Caberfeidh

Another competitive pre- season game against Caberfeidh at a cold Balgate on Saturday.

After a slow start, but some good forward play Lovat took the early lead only for Cabers to equalise and gain the ascendancy before the break. In the second half, after a number of changes by both sides, and some sustained Lovat pressure, Gregg converted his second and third goals, and further good  strikes from Euan and Martin led to a final score of 5-1.
In difficult conditions, this was a decent hard fought game by both sides.
Next week, pre-season concludes with an away match with Willie MacRae’s Skye for the Thomas Ferguson Memorial Cup.

The second team take on Caberfeidh, in Fraser Gallacher’s first game in charge.

Lovat 1-1 Lochaber

This turned out to be a very usefull, hard pre-season game- just the sort of competitive match we were looking for. I thought the team competed well after a slowish start and put Lochaber under a fair amount of pressure in the second half.

We managed to give all the substitutes a run out, and it was especialy nice to see Fraser back on the pitch after illness and injury.

Still some hard work and practice to be done, before were ready for the start of the season- but were getting there.

Thanks to Michael and his Lochaber team and all the best for the coming season, although from what we saw of them yesterday they wont need much luck! and should be competing for the league.
