Camanachd Cup 2015 Lovat vs Kyles

So tomorrow is the big day, Camanachd Cup Final – the one we’ve all been waiting for. It’s been sixty two years, but finally the wait is over. The players have committed extra time to training, and the preparations have been made – on and off the field (including some on the beach!).

Alan MacLaren and Willie MacLean, winners in the 1953 team, met with the team on Wednesday and gave some words of wisdom to the squad. Seeing their medals was an inspiration, if you needed any. Alan and Willie spoke of Kyles high level of skill and their playing style and it seems that not much has changed. Kyles are still famous for that kind of shinty, however this Lovat squad have developed a skilful style of their own and should make for an entertaining match.

Lovat have made huge strides forward in recent times, gaining promotion and playing in the premier league for the first time in 2008. Its mostly the same group of players that brought about this success and are now experienced campaigners (although the average age is still only 24). We’ve also been recognised for this improvement by the number of Lovat players gaining selection for the international squads. More recently, this side won consecutive MacTavish Cup Finals in 2013, 2014 including 2nd spot in the Premier League.

But what about their pedigree? Well here’s a few photos to remind you that this group of players are no strangers to success and have been building up to this point for a long time.

Good luck boys!
