A very difficult fixture in the Macaulay Cup at Balgate, in which we squeezed through after extra time.
The game started in positive fashion with us having the upper hand in early possession and mounting a good number of attacks on the Shiel goal. Some hard luck, stout defending and an unlucky penalty miss however kept the scores level until finally in 37minutes a speculative drive from Lorne caught out the keeper and hit the back of the net.
Half time came and went and Shiel upped their possession and equalised half way through the half. The game then swung to and fro until the final whistle.
Extra time and the game was still competitive, however a great strike from Kevin before half time sent us into the lead. Again chances came and went but with no more scoring, we squeezed into the next round, where Fort William were awaiting the victors.
This was a second hard fixture against Shiel at Balgate, and with the Mactavish semi and the away fixture to come, we’ll be seeing each other at least another twice before the end of the season.
